Repertoire

  • Classical music
  • Hymns or hymn arrangements.
  • Music from piano books for younger students.
  • Art songs, songs in other languages, or worship songs are suggested for singers. No broadway.

We encourage your to select music that casts your talent in the best light. We offer suggestions; however, the final selection is up to you and your teacher.Younger students may play two contrasting pieces since they are usually short. Younger students have a 5 minute maximum playing time. Older students have a 6 minute maximum playing time. Total audition time for all is 10 minutes which includes time for feedback from the judges. 



Adjudication Guidelines

Adjudication Guidelines

All contestants will also be judged against others that are in their same level and age group.  A 1st place trophy will be awarded in each level/age group. Most levels will also have 2nd and 3rd place trophies awarded as well. There are also smaller trophies awarded to all those who are below 3rd place. 


Contestants are adjudicated and ranked using the following criteria:

  1. Technical skills: Note accuracy, intonation 
  2. Technical skills: Tempo and pulse
  3. Technical skills: Accuracy in dynamics, phrasing, etc.
  4. Technical skills: Accuracy of words, good and clear diction, breath control.
  5. Musicality: Ability to interpret music beyond the requirements of the score - imaginative dynamics, phrasing, timing, etc.
  6. Stage presence: Appropriate attire, walks and sits elegantly, reverence for the audience or adjudicators, bow before/after.
  7. Memorization: Accuracy, memory slips, nerves.
  8. Repertoire: Does the work highlight the musician’s strengths well? 

Outstanding Soloist of the day

An outstanding soloist of the day award will go to a pianist, a vocalist and an instrumentalist. This is a judges choice award.

Awards & FAQ

Trophies for Category Placement

You will be judged against the other contestants in your category (beginner, novice, etc.) and your age range. Winners in these categories will receive a trophy.
